Inside Sales Manager

Our inside sales manager got promoted. We are looking for someone to grow into a position of leadership in our company. The sales team consists of two permanent outside sales reps, one multipurpose staff member and our part time/seasonal college help. We need an inside salesman/saleswoman to grow into a position of leadership and success for our company. We specialize in buying and selling Kindergarten thru twelfth grade textbooks. We sell them online to John Q Public and directly in orders of large quantities of books to customers that are primarily book resellers or schools/districts.

Our inside sales manager is responsible for the school side of the relationship. He/She will build and maintain relationships with schools, ensure customers have all their needs met throughout the order process, educate the customer on what options Walker Bookstore has to meet their needs, guide the customer to a solution that meets their needs, and build lifelong customers. The sales team’s success provides 30 college/temporary employees jobs for the summer and results in tens of thousands satisfied customers.

Job Description and Details

  • Salary is DOE $45K + bonus. Second year income will be a minimum of $70k for a successful sales manager. One outside sales representative has made $150k a year for the last two years.
  • Health insurance eligibility first of the month after 60 day of employment, and other benefits after longer term employment.
  • Begin sometime in Early 2019, hopefully sometime in January. We are located in Tempe near Southern and Hardy.
  • We will be counting on you for our success.
  • Manage a small inside sales team, which sells directly to schools & districts nationwide.
  • Further develop existing customer relationships and create new customers.
  • Some cold-calling of business customers involved, but there is a strong base of warm leads and existing customers to develop and maintain.
  • Manage customer database and keep detailed records of the sales process in our system.
  • Initially includes extensive training and mentorship for support as you learn this business.
  • Expected to meet sales goals and contribute to overall growth of the company.
  • Do, or ensure that tasks get done, that are essential to the successful operation of our small business.

Necessary Qualifications & Desired Traits

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Educational industry experience a real bonus.
  • Strong mathematical abilities. (This is tested pre-hire.)
  • Willingness and ability to work 50 to 70 hours a week with very limited or no vacation time from May 1 to September 30th (80% of our business is in this time frame).
  • Ability to get approval to take extra vacation, work reduced hours, and work from home in the winter (October 1-April 15) once you are established in your position.
  • Experience in sales and/or customer service.
  • Strong communication skills (face to face, phone and written).
  • Experience with cold calling or prospecting new customers is a plus.
  • Highly organized individual who works with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with others in team setting.
  • Ability to lead and supervise a small team.
  • Fast learner who is self-motivated.
  • Willing to ask questions as necessary for success.
